There are four stages in the process:- 1. The period of enquiry; 2. The period of instruction and preparation for reception of baptism or entry into full communion. 3. The period of purification/enlightenment and the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist); 4. The period called the Mystagogia ( a period of initial experience of the new life in Christ) How long does the R.C.I.A. process take? The process takes as long as is necessary for the understanding and accepting of the Catholic faith. The candidates are the ones who ask for Baptism when they are ready - there must be no pressure on them to be baptised. When the candidates say they are ready, the Church either accepts them or asks them to wait until it is clear that they really are ready. It is God who calls the candidates to Baptism which is ideally celebrated during the Easter Virgil.
