The R.C.I.A. is the PROCESS OF COMING to FAITH

 

Who is for R.C.I.A?

The R.C.I.A is for any adult,

 

a) who wishes to be baptised (or even just wishes to consider being baptised)

 

b) who already baptised in another religion but who wishes to ask for admission to the Catholic faith (or even wishes to investigate admission.

 

c) who wishes to become a Catholic

 

d) non-Catholic who wishes to share the faith of their Catholic partner.

 

What do we mean by an 'adult'?

When we speak of an "adult" here, we mean any person is above 18 years of age and is not schooling.

What is the R.C.I.A. process like?

 

The R.C.I.A is NOT A STUDY COURSE and you DO NOT HAVE TO PASS AN EXAMINATION but it is a process that will ask for very serious thinking from the one who enters it, and if all this goes well, the candidate is accepted by the Church for Baptism. It is a journey during which the adults share their stories and are told of the stories of the Church and together they discover the common call of God in His son, Jesus Christ.

There are four stages in the process:-

1. The period of enquiry;

2. The period of instruction and preparation for reception of baptism  or entry into full communion.

3. The period of purification/enlightenment and the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist);

4. The period called the Mystagogia ( a period of initial experience of the new life in Christ)

How long does the R.C.I.A. process take?

The process takes as long as is necessary for the understanding and accepting of the Catholic faith.

The candidates are the ones who ask for Baptism when they are ready - there must be no pressure on them to be baptised.

When the candidates say they are ready, the Church either accepts them or asks them to wait until it is clear that they really are ready.

It is God who calls the candidates to Baptism which is ideally celebrated during the Easter Virgil.
